What
To Wear to
Tribal Fusion Dance Class |
When
thinking about your dance attire always keep comfort and flexibility in
mind.
- Wear your hair in a manner so that it will not get
in
your way, and you are not distracted by it. I prefer to wear
mine
up, so the sweat from the workout does not get in my way.
- Your top or shirt can vary depending on what
you are
comfortable with. I wear a variety of tops but one thing they
all
have in common is that they are form fitting. There are a
couple
reasons for this; we warm up and cool down using some yoga type moves
where you invert your head and if you have a loose shirt or top on, it
will slip down over your chin and mouth and you will be distracted by
it, we also will be doing abdominal movements and it is nice if you can
see your muscles isolated.
- For your pants, please wear something that you
can
comfortably stretch in. I prefer yoga or gaucho pants because
they are loose at the bottoms and form fitting on top. This
way I
can do lunges and see my muscles at the same time. Some
people
prefer to wear a body leotard, I love the ones with the sheer mesh
tummies. Also, as you get more comfortable with the dance,
you
may want to purchase a 10 yard/ tiered gypsy skirt. These
skirts
are wonderful for many many reasons.
- The floors we dance on are carpet or wood and I
would
prefer that you don't wear shoes, unless they are are dance shoes.
I will constantly be asking where your weight is and where
you
feel pressure on your feet and if you are wearing your shoes, you will
not get the same weight shift and changes. If you feel like
you
want something on your feet without buying dance shoes, you can wear
your socks.
- You may also want to invest in a dance belt or
hip
scarf early on. The coin belts are nice and allow you to hear
how
your hips are moving, and hip scarves are great, and more tribal,
because you can actually feel some weight shift with the swinging of
the tassels. If you do not have a dance belt or hip scarf,
you
can try a shoulder wrap or scarf tied around your hips for a similar
effect.
- This is not something you wear, but you will
also
want to invest in a veil. The last week in class we will be
learning veil work and you will want one to learn the moves.
A
veil can be any piece of material - usually silky and flowy, that is at
least 1 1/2 yards long. Veils can range from 1 1/2 yards to 4
yards long - just depending on how much fabric you want to work with.
A great place to find Tribal Dance wear is on Ebay. Simply
type
in Tribal Bellydance or bellydance (insert whatever you are looking
for) and you will get lots of great choices. When buying
clothes,
keep in mind that the more natural the fabric, the better it will
breathe during class.
